1-on-1 Career Planning

 The purpose of this engagement is to assist the individual in planning their next career step. This may include considering positions within one’s current area of expertise, or considering new opportunities based on interest, skills and abilities.

The process usually consists of the following phases:

  • Exploring and targeting fields and areas of interest where one’s experience, interest, skills and abilities appear to be a good match
  • Creating or revising one’s resume/ CV
  • Preparing for the interview; building interview skills, including practicing behavioral based interviewing
  • Assessments, such as the MBTI, are utilized as needed

This engagement usually consists of a few meetings depending on the needs of the individual.

Leadership and Management Coaching

The purpose of this coaching is to enhance the person’s managerial and leadership skills, and often helpful in the following situations:

  • The person has recently been promoted and will now manage others
  • The person is transitioning from a managerial role to a more strategic executive/ leadership role where strategic thinking, change and initiatives are expected

The following focus areas are commonly addressed:

  • Managing and leading change
  • Influencing
  • Delegating effectively
  • Setting clear expectations
  • Managing one’s boss
  • Coaching and developing staff

The process usually consists of the following phases:

  1. Enrollment of the coaching client, relationship building and introduction to coaching.
  2. Fact and information finding through interviews and other sources.
    Upon the coachee’s agreement, information and feedback materials will be gathered, summarized and prepared to serve as the foundation for the coaching. Examples of information sources are:
    1. 360-via-interveiw where the coach, upon the coachee’s agreement, interviews the coachee’s staff members, peers and manager to gain an understanding of the person’s strengths and developmental needs
    2. Available 360-degree assessment materials
    3. Available internal employee opinion survey results
    4. Performance appraisals
    5. Individual assessments such as Firo-B and/ or MBTI
  3. Customized written feedback report is prepared for the coachee.
  4. In-depth feedback session based on the information collected highlighting strengths and developmental needs.
  5. Developmental planning and goal setting to outline focus of coaching relationship.
  6. Coaching according to the plan; including face-to-face and telephone meetings.
    The coaching services are usually offered on a bimonthly basis either in person or by phone. The frequency may be adjusted to suit the coachee’s business demands. The coaching sessions usually last about 2 hours each meeting time.
  7. Email and phone support in-between scheduled sessions if need be.
  8. Closure and next steps to sustain the leadership changes.
